New HS Network Architectural Proposal

*PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL INFORMATION IN THIS BLOG IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

In September of 2011, Monroe Township Board of Education will open a 300,000-square-foot, three-story building known as the new Monroe Township High School. The school will house over 2,000 students and 250 staff members and will be one of the largest public schools in state of New Jersey.

As the Network Operations Manager I have been assigned the duty to have this new building suited and capable to host a 700-computer network with wireless and wired access.

Our project will contain several deliverables which include a fully-detailed architectural map of the network, a working database used for purchasing technological needs during the building of the school, a report detailing the network’s capabilities and another report discussing the network security infrastructure.

The network will take on a similar approach to that of the design at the current high school which consists of 300 desktop computers and 200 laptops. Windows Server 2003 will be the primary server for many of the major services such as DHCP, DNS, RDP, E-mail, Active Directory and file management. Third-party software will be used for imaging, internet filtering and spam guard, while the new high school will connect to the rest of the district via a T-3 connection hosted by Verizon.

The database will be created in Microsoft Access and will consist of several forms detailing purchase dates, vendor information and product descriptions. This database will be maintained by the district’s tech office but will also be accessible over the organization’s network. The department will work hand-in-hand with the financial office in the purchasing of equipment for the new school.

Our office plans on completing this project by the December 15 of 2009.

This looks like a very interesting project. Here are a few comments. 1)Could you add hyperlinks to explain some of the services you listed such as DHCP? Not being a network person I don't know what type of function this is.
2) Could you mention the budget for designing, buying and installing this network?
3) The MS Access database that you're creating can that be expanded for use by other departments to purchase other equipment needed such as desks, blackboards, chairs, etc.?
